I was commissioned by Grand Designs magazine to write a barn conversion expert guide.

My five page barn conversion guide titled ‘Rural Regeneration’ has been published in the November 2023 issue of the magazine and coincides with the new series of the television programme on Channel 4. The guide is essential reading for those embarking on a barn conversion.

Within the barn conversion guide is advice on all major aspects of converting a barn into an energy efficient home. The guide addresses issues such as:

- The design team. Which consultants will I require in my team?
- Statutory permissions. What about planning and Building Regulations approvals? What other legislation might apply?
- Costs. How much will my project cost and what should I budget for?
- Design tips. Can you offer any professional design advice?
- Energy efficiency. How can I make my building as sustainable as possible?
